Hey readers!
Happy new year! Welcome to 2014! "A new year, a new beginning", as we say! Leaving all the bad situations in 2013 behind, out with the old, in with the new, right?
For a lot of people, this may be the case. For others, the year started off with bad situations to endure: broken limbs, attending funerals, couples breaking up; people eagerly looking for work because their contracts from last year were up; miscarriages; the flu; arguments with friends or family, or maybe even injuring themselves pretty badly while trying to shovel thick sheets of ice off their driveways... whatever the case may be.
People have said, "How you start off your year, will set the tone for how the rest of the year will be". This will only be true if you truly believe it, and if you're one of the unfortunates who have jump started 2014 with bad luck, you're in for a tough year.
I won't go into details, but your favorite Jersey Girl in Canada is one of these unfortunates, and I have the flu to top it all off. Whatever my situation was, I had an immediate reaction, and initially regretfully handled my situation in a very classless way: venting on social media. I deleted what I wrote within hours, as I realized how bad that probably was. It does help a lot to vent when you're having a problem, but it doesn't mean it should be at the expense of how others could be viewed.
When you're hurting, it may be best to vent in a journal, or talking to someone in private. I am all about freedom of speech, but I'm (finally) starting to consider new ways of refraining from acting too quickly, as I easily and admittedly make irrational decisions that way. That's what I get for being a 'firey personality'. As I am on my journey to neutralize and move forward from whatever upsetting situation I am in, the thought of jump starting 2014 like this feels rather depressing.
Laying sick in bed, sweating my ass off due to my fever, I recall my fifth grade teacher living by the mantra "This is the first day of the rest of my life". She told her students that she would say this to herself every morning when waking up. I think this is a healthier way of dealing with a stressful situation, as we are not promised tomorrow, and besides- how can we predetermine how an entire year will be like based on how it starts off?? Instead of having New Years Resolutions, why not have Daily Resolutions?
Therefore, instead of feeling like you may have missed the train to "A new year, a new beginning", remember that every day you wake up is a sweet new train to "A new day, making every second count to be better than yesterday."
